Visual Research

THIS IS A COLLECTION OF IMAGES THAT I GATHERED FOR INSPIRATION AND REFERENCING, HELPING ME CREATED MY OWN CHARACTERS, ENVIRONMENTS AND STORYBOARDS.
At  the bottom of this page theres is a section called Miscellaneous references this shows uncategorised pictures that helped me in my design process.

Storyboards: This is just a small collection of storyboards that I used as reference, predominantly the layout of the black and white Final Fantasy 6 storyboards.

Persona 3:  I used these images to help visualise ideas from my character profiles and stance, the multiple character expressions were pertinacity helpful.

This and the following image (2) were particularly helpful when designing the female android character "2.0"

(2)
Final Fantasy 13: these images were used simply for inspirational purposes, the environments and characters helped me visualise my own.

I used this image as a reference when doing my facial concepts for the character Maria.

Final Fantasy 12: This selection of art works was very inspirational. The futuristic setting and mechanical cities/airships were very helpful when designing my maps and digital drawings of the city Calence and the ARC ship/spire. The way the character designs in these pictures are laid out were also quite inspirational.

This picture inspired the idea for my digital painting of the ARC ship resting atop the spire. The birds in the foreground resemble a path of such that leads to the ship above, this allowed me to visualise how I wanted to paint my own image.

Magna Carta 2: These images are illustrated by my favourite artist, he specialise in character design. For all art works I ever create I look at work he has made. I do this mostly because of the over exaggeration of his characters physique and the way he perfects lighting and shadow with detailed brush techniques. I find his work to have a very unique style, which in tern inspires me greatly.

Odin Sphere: I found this Unique Cartoon style of these images rather intriguing. the multiple character sketches were also very helpful.

Infamous:      I found these images particularly helpful for when I drew the two digital images of Leon using his environment manipulation power. The blue and yellow lightning coming from this characters hands were inspirational to my own designs.

Guilty Gear: When looking at these images i found that each character really spoke a unique personality, i found the art style very different and traditional to the others i looked at. This inspired me to really think carefully about my characters personalities and try to portray them well through my own unique style of drawing, i feel that i definitely achieved this.

Persona 4: This collection of Persona art work had very much the same effect on me as the Previous Persona art works. However this time around, i found the uncoloured character sketches very inspirational, in that i used the same kind of brain storming when sketching my own characters concept faces.

Final Fantasy 10:  I used This collection of character designes as visual stimuli.

Final Fantasy 9:  This beautiful collection of character, environments and airship designs greatly inspires me. I dont borrow elements of the hand painted or early steam-punk style, My inspiration is purely drawn from the beauty of the work. Also it just so happens this art is from my all time favourite game. I could look at this art for hours.

Rogue Galaxy:  The multipul face expressions and character designs were useful for visual stimulation.

Lost Odyssey:  I found the water colour complemented these character profiles nicely.

Miscellaneous references

I used this image as a Brush stroke reference when colouring my 2nd digital painting of Leon using his powers.  I found that the simple strokes used in this image were not too complicated for me to emulate, as i feel my digital painting skills are low intermediate.

I tried to use this image as a position refference in my first try at drawing Maria. I didn't like how it was turning out so i stopped that drawing.
I took the middle section of this woman's body when coming up with concepts for the character 2.0.

I used this and the following 2 images as reference when designing both Jack and Eden.

This is a reference image i used in my first try at drawing Eden, i wanted to achieve a black man that looked kind of like this (Quite clearly based off Billy Bob Thornton) crossed with barack obama. I didn't like how it was going, so i decided to try a different approach to the character Eden.
I used this collection of character profiles to help create my first drawing of Maria.

This was the reference image i used when drawing the concepts/final version of the character Jack.
