Proposal

1.    Purpose:
Critical Reflection on your work and development is a vital part of professional practice. This Statement of Intent is intended to help you articulate your current position and future intentions in ways that can assist you and your tutors, to achieve your goals.

2.    Previous Research and Development:
2a. Issues, Ideas & Themes: Describe the background to your earlier work to date in terms of primary concerns, ideas or themes, Max 200 words.
My previous work has been heavily focused on concept art and narrative design.  The reason for this is because my primary interests are in the fields of illustration and narrative development. I have worked with 3d modelling and animation as well.  For narrative I have written several back stories for both game design documents and character developments. Recently I wrote a 37 page document (including comparative report) for narrative studies. This was a document based on a video game adaptation of the novel I am writing in my own time, largely emphasized on narrative and character development. I have done a number of projects centred on concept art and the visual development of characters. Other projects include modelling various images and rendering animations using 3DSMAX and making short levels in game engines such as UNITY and UDK.

2b. Media, Technique & Process: Identify key media techniques or technical processes you employed.
Prior to the course I only used pencil media for illustration and Photoshop for graphic design. I now use both pencil and Photoshop (with a pen tablet) to produce varied pieces of illustration.  I have learned to use other programs such as 3dsmax; however I’m not too keen on 3D modelling. Working with game engines such as Unity has also given me some technical insight. As well as Photoshop I have worked with the programs Coral Painter and most recently Alchemy, for my digital illustration.  When working on narrative I only use word processing for the writing, however when researching for inspiration I use all kinds of narrative media such as books, films, games, etc.   This also applies to my illustration work.

3. Current Research & Development:
3a. Issues, Ideas & Themes: Describe the major concerns, ideas or themes and key media you intend to explore in this module. Identify continuities and discontinuities between previous and current interests (i.e.; sections 2 & 3). Max 200 words
For my narrative project I wrote a game design document describing a game narrative, characters, worlds and game mechanics.
For my personal project I’m going to take this document and build on top of it by illustrating characters, worlds and environments. I will also work on story boards depicting key scenes from the narrative. I will do a series of concept designs portraying various assets of the game, such as weapons and props. I intend to add to the existing narrative document with more script and go into more depth regarding the game’s design.
My primary research will consist of mostly existing art works from games and other entertainment medias. For written research I will explore mostly books and contextualise sections for both written and visual development.

Media, Technique and Process: Identify key media, techniques or technical processes you will need to utilise or explore in order to realise your ideas. Max 200 words.
I plan to execute this project by using mixed media. The conceptual design will be a mix of both traditional and digital art. (Pencil/Photoshop).
I will use a lot of narrative influence both visual and texted based such as, books, novels, art, games, and films. This will help me research and visualise my designs, approaching my outcome with fictitious and interesting development.

Timetable & Outcomes:  Try to specify what you hope to achieve by following the milestones.
Mid-module: Fully modelled scene
End of module: AVI. Movie of a flythrough of the scene

4. Tutor Feedback:
Your tutor will write some brief comments here. Max 100 words.
